Castlemine Farm – Success Story
Castlemine Farm is an established company which has been trading since 2008. The farm has been in the family for five generations and is now run by brothers Brendan and Derek Allen. The farm initially produced dry-aged beef, grass-fed lamb, free-range pork and free-range bronze turkeys.
Due to increasing demand for for their products, a new shop premises – including butcher shop and deli counter – was opened in December 2011. During this expansion Castlemine Farm started producing convenience food such as salads, ready meals and delicious meat pies. An additional 1,000 square foot premises was leased to allow for further growth of the business, but the brothers needed capital to purchase new equipment.
When Brendan and Derek went looking for this funding their bank was unable to provide facilities. They then applied to Microfinance Ireland through Local Enterprise Office Roscommon and were approved for the loan they needed.
The loan from Microfinance Ireland helped Castlemine Farm to develop a new state of the art facility – adding value to their produce. Their big winner to date has been their meat pies, which are now sold in a range of shops, delis, pubs and restaurants. They currently employ seven people and would hope to hire another staff member over the next 12 months.
